Peach-Faced Lovebirds in Arizona

One of my previous posts talked about Mommy wanting another parrot. Well, her wish has come true! . . . sort of . . .

Along with its mate, that little guy that Mom took a picture of began frequenting our backyard about a month ago. Mom was sitting out back one day when a very green bird, definitely not an Arizona bird, landed on our fence. He went down to the bird bath to drink, then joined his mate back on the fence. They seemed to be feeding one another, but Mommy thought it looked like they were kissing. Oh boy was she excited!

Mom had first heard about these birds in the wild from another human where she works. He had spoken about a flock of them coming to his Mommy's backyard. He was so eager to attract them, but they flew with great speed the moment they spotted a human.

Mom found a wonderful site with all sorts of information about these birds living in our desert. She was initially very worried that they had escaped from a human dwelling, and would not survive, but has since been convinced from her research that they'll be just fine.

By placing a bird feeder, really meant more for woodpeckers, with a large block of seed mix inside, she has attracted these cute little guys who arrive for breakfast, and often times during the early evening hours.

This morning Mommy and Daddy wanted to go outside, and the lovebirds were on the feeder. Usually Mommy doesn't allow Daddy to even set foot near the door, for fear of scaring the little guys. But they went outside anyway, and it appears that they might have even stayed, if the dozens of other feeding birds hadn't flown the coop.

I'll keep you posted on Mom's progress of getting these cute little birdies used to her presence, and hopefully she'll be able to take some better pictures at a much closer range.

Oops, that's me!

HeHe . . there I am again!
