Mommy tends to bite off more than she can chew. She gets bored easily (as I do – that’s why I scream so much!), and jumps from one project to the next, rarely finishing any of them. Her latest thing is something called Clicker Training. |
She viewed a great video over at BirdTricks.com, and added an article on the subject to my site here. Mommy got very excited after watching the video included in that article! But instead of doing it the right way, by purchasing Chet’s course, studying the topic at hand, and performing the necessary steps in order to achieve success, Mommy ran right out to PetSmart, bought a clicker, and began clicking.
Mommy practiced a bit, clicking for no apparent reason. Her first click caused me to do my famous sideways glance (which Daddy loves to imitate!) and I must admit, I was a bit intrigued. This thrilled Mommy, so she decided to click whenever I performed some act that was, as I would put it, “goooooooooooooooooood”.

She clicked when I did ‘step-up’, she clicked when I ate my food, she clicked when I drank, and she clicked when I coooed. Heck, she even clicked when I clucked! Pretty soon Daddy had to intervene. “You can’t click at everything! She’s not going to know what all that clicking really means.”
To worsen the situation, Mommy decided to start saying the word “Clicker”. “Clicker is gooood!” “The clicker is when you do something gooooood!” (I guess you can tell why I say ‘goooooooooood’ instead of ‘good’ ;)
Well, it just so happens that one of my favorite words, “Zucker” (which is Daddy’s nickname), to me, sounds like “Clicker”. I, naturally, combined the two and have officially added to my vocabulary, “Zicker!” “Zicker – wuz dat?” “What’s a Zicker?”
Maybe Chet needs to add an article to his site about Mommy entitled, “How NOT To Train Your Parrot!!”
